Migrant construction workers in Singapore have been facing incidents of stigma and xenophobia. Despite being the literal builders of the nation, they often remain "invisible" or misunderstood by the resident population. The goal of this communication campaign was to humanise the workforce by capturing a raw, authentic "Day-in-the-Life" of these workers. It is hoped to foster a deeper understanding among residents, bridging the emotional gap and building empathy for the migrant worker community.
I pitched the concept 'Silent Heroes' to put a spotlight on migrant construction workers: The backbone of our city whose tireless work formed the very foundation of our nation. To address their 'invisibility' within society, the creative approach was to ensure the backgrounds remain in black and white, while the workers are shown in vibrant color. This contrast pulls them out of the shadows, making them the clear center of the story. I also pulled the campaign’s color palette directly from their helmets and high-visibility vests, so that whenever people see these colors, they immediately associate them with the workers and the vital role they play in our nation.
